Every year, the American Chemical Society (ACS) hosts a National Chemistry Week. This year, the local chemistry club on campus, Pi Rho, will be participating in National Chemistry Week with some fun events around campus. Be sure to check out the Explosively Awesome Chemistry Show, this Thursday on the library lawn, where Pi Rho members will be demonstrating some really exciting experiments, like fire tornados and exploding ping pong balls. The demonstration is going to be held during convo hour, and is a slightly more extreme version of the demonstrations that the club gives for local elementary and middle schools. Keep checking back for more pictures of the events as they happen!

The club picked the date 10/23 for their chemistry demonstration because it is every chemists’ favorite day of the year. That’s right, its mole day, named after the number of particles in a mole of substance, which is 6.022x 1023. Mole day technically extends from 6:02 am to 6:02 PM so if you pass your chemistry professor on Thursday, be sure to tell them “Happy Mole Day!”
Have an awesome National Chemistry Week! Celebrate by having fun in lab!
