The Blood Moon |
Turn your eyes to the sky the
morning of Wednesday, Oct 8th from 5:25-6:24 a.m. for a total lunar eclipse. As the full moon passes through
the earth’s shadow, and the earth aligns perfectly between the moon and sun, the
sunlight is bent through the Earth’s atmosphere which will cast a red glow upon
the moon.
The blood moon on Oct 8th is part of
a tetrad, or four consecutive total lunar eclipses. The
first of the tetrad appeared on April 15th, the second being this
Wednesday, Oct 8th, and the final two will be on April 4th,
2015 and September 28th, 2015.
During the 300-year interval from
1600 to 1900, there were no tetrads at all, according to NASA eclipse expert
Fred Espenak.
This rare and beautiful astronomical
event has occurred in recent years in 1909-10, 1927-28, 1949-50, 1967-68,
1985-86, and 2003-04. However it has
only occurred on the first day of Jewish Holy Feasts seven times since 1 C.E.,
and three of the seven blood-red moons that have occured on the first day of
Passover or the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles (like the one that will
be seen on Oct 8th) have been correlated with these significant events in
Jewish history:
·
In
1492, when the Jews were expelled from Spain during the Spanish Inquisition
·
In
1948, when Israel came into existence as a Nation
·
In
1967 when Israel captured Jerusalem in the 6 day war
And
now in 2014 it is occurring.
These events coinciding in time
have, or course, led to tradition and superstition. However, this Tetrad of
blood moons, on the first and last days of the seven feasts, four times in a
row, won’t happen again for centuries, making this event even more magnificent.
According to Jewish tradition the Blood Moons on
Jewish feast days are a warning sign. After the first eclipse on April 15th a
war broke out with the Palestinians in July, creating an interesting addition
to this tradition.
Some
Christians are making a connection between the blood moons and the return of
Christ. And although we are used to apocalyptic prophesies, this occurrence is
certainly something worth seeing.
John Hagee, a televangelist and megachurch pastor of
Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, preached a sermon series called the
“Red Moon Prophecies” in 2013. Hagee expanded on those sermons in a book
titled, “Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change.” In it, the pastor
claims the lunar eclipses foreshadow “a world-shaking event,” originating in
the Middle East between April 2014 and October 2015.
"There's a sense in the world that things are changing
and God is trying to communicate with us in a supernatural way," said
Hagee in an interview with CBN news. "I believe that in these next two
years, we're going to see something dramatic happen in the Middle East
involving Israel that will change the course of history in the Middle East and
impact the whole world," he said.
The
Bible states in Joel 2:31 “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon
into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.” Also
mentioned in Acts 2:20 is that “the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the
moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come.”
Regardless
of whether this is an apocalyptic or prophetic sign or not, head outside around
5:30 am on October 8th and watch the sky; the blood moon is going to be a
spectacular sight to see.

But will the moon be in position to see in Seguin?
